Water Baptism

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death
in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through
the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Romans 6:4

What does it mean to be baptized?

To be baptized in water is a public statement that you have turned away from your old, selfish way of living, and that you have a new life in Jesus Christ.

To go down under the water is a metaphor of your "death and burial" - you no longer live for sin. To come up out of the water is a proclamation that you now live for the Lord.

He has washed away your sin and made you His child. Baptism doesn't save you. Trusting in Jesus Christ saves you. Baptism is your public confession that you have already become a believer in Jesus Christ.

How is a person baptized?

The biblical method for baptism is by immersion. That means the pastor will lower you completely into the water and then bring you back up. Though the procedure is very quick and simple, the importance of this event is great.

When it comes time to be baptized, whether in a river, pool, or hot tub, be sure to bring a change of clothes and a towel. Please, no swimming suits unless they are worn under your regular clothing if you wish. It is important to treat this event as more than just a dip in the pool.

Does baptism make me a member of the church?

Baptism is one of the requirements for membership at Valley Christian Center, but it does not make you a member.

By being baptized you make a public declaration that you are now a member of God's church... you belong to God's family... you are one of His children. As significant as it is to become a member of a local church, declaring your membership in God's family through baptism is much more important.

If you would like to join Valley Christian Center (one small part of God's greater church), watch the announcements and church events calendar for the next Orientation Class.
